installation > growing an object

Growing an object explored how a particular sculpture could expand and contract, growing and changing through experiences it underwent. I wanted to see how a sculpture could visually and materially express the transformation of an exhibition, how its material form could shift, and what possible aftermath that transformation could offer the sculpture physically and psychologically, beyond the exhibition.

The installation process began with a singular sculpture, that over the course of a weekend, grew into the space of its environment, creating a new experience that touched the walls, ceiling, and floor. After the exhibition, the materials were condensed back into the original sculpture, altering its form.

This project was created for re evolution curated by Carol Shaw Sutton.
